Moxibustion ("moxa")
Moxibustion, also known as "moxa" is a treatment method whereby acupuncture points are warmed by slowly burning a dried herb called mugwort near the skin or on acupuncture needles.
This is a very safe and painless technique if carried out by a qualified acupuncturist.
Moxibustion is usually used in patients with what Traditional Chinese Medicine calls "cold" conditions, such as stiffness, swelling and pain which is worse with damp and cold.
However, moxibustion can also be used in other conditions. For example, it has been shown to be up to 95% successful in turning breeched babies.
