What is Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture?

Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture, also known as "cosmetic acupuncture", "facial rejuvenation", "acupuncture facelift" or "cosmetic acupuncture" is a painless, non-surgical and safe treatment method used in controlling and treating the ageing process.

What does it involve?

Very fine, single use acupuncture needles are inserted at individually selected acupuncture points on the face to stimulate the flow of Qi (energy) and improve blood circulation. This brings nutrients to the skin and muscles and removes metabolic toxins. Some other acupuncture points on the body may also be selected for their effect on general health and well-being.

Once the needles are inserted, a very pleasant warm tingling sensation may be experienced. This is a sign that the treatment is having an effect. You will then be left to relax while the treatment works. In addition to Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, electroacupuncture, acupressure massage and dietary advice may be used to supplement the treatment.

What are the effects of the treatment?

Is the treatment safe?

Acupuncture treatment is very safe. Unlike other cosmetic treatments, it has no long-term irreversible side-effects such as scarring, swelling, paralysis of the face or drooping eyelids.

Very rarely the point at which the acupuncture needle is inserted may slightly bruise. Any bruising should disappear after a few days. Some patients also feel slightly sleepy after treatment.

How soon will the results be noticeable?

You should plan to have a course of treatment consisting of 10 to 15 treatment sessions. For the best results treatment needs to be given initially on a twice weekly basis and then on a once weekly basis. Results should be noticeable after just a few treatments.

The effects from Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture are not as dramatic as with cosmetic surgery. However, the results are more natural looking. Once the course of treatment is finished, many people choose to continue with occasional follow up sessions to maintain their improved appearance.
